Residents take part in a wide range of daytime and evening activities. Some attend local colleges, Day Services, social centres or undertake voluntary work. We provide opportunities for residents to join in social activities within the local community and further a field. We encourage people to develop and maintain individual interests; taking part in drama productions, attending social clubs and following sports and hobbies.
Residents are encouraged to become as independent as possible. They are expected to perform normal household tasks, help with shopping, meal planning and preparation and look after their own room.
Continuity is maintained between staff groups through regular staff meetings, regular staff training and handovers at every shift change.
A key worker system is in operation so that each resident has a named member of staff to give individual direct support and to take charge of that person's individual programme, according to the resident's needs and wishes. The key worker has responsibility for the care plan and, under the supervision of a Senior Care Assistant, will ensure that it is updated and recorded, and will organise and attend reviews. These may be done in conjunction with a Day Service, family or friends, social worker or other professional as appropriate. The key worker carries out a monthly update and the key worker and resident review the plan quarterly. Formal reviews are held at least every six months and more frequently according to need. Close contact with other professional agencies helps to ensure that the residents' needs are constantly being addressed.
Residents' meetings are arranged at regular intervals. These meetings give residents an opportunity to discuss and contribute to plans and decisions about everyday activities, menus, outing and holidays, furnishings and decoration of communal areas. The meetings also give staff an opportunity to seek feedback on the residents' satisfaction of the service that they receive.
Relatives, friends and representatives are welcome to visit, telephone or write to residents, and staff will assist in maintaining contact, if required.
Residents' privacy is respected by all members of staff and other residents.
Residents may travel to visit friends and relatives and may be accompanied by staff if required.
Residents are asked about their religious beliefs and are assisted to attend services and activities organised by religious organisations, if they so wish
