We strive to create and maintain an environment in which the individuals' culture, gender and opinions are valued and respected. We encourage awareness of the person's individuality and personal identity, and of their value to society.

- Promote the rights of the individual and assist them to make choices in their lives
- Protect the residents from abuse.
- People with learning disabilities have the. same value in society as anyone else.
- Recognise the right, and encourage the need to live with others in the community and to become part of their local community.

- Afford residents the dignity and respect to which they are entitled.
- Help and encourage people to become more independent.
- Avoid institutional controls, whilst being aware of physical or other risks to the residents.

Practices employed to meet philosophies.
- Ensure staff and/or other relevant people perform the role of an advocate for the residents.
- Relate to other agencies, professionals, family and other people relevant to the individual.
- Allow maximum choice - what to drink, what to wear etc.
- Encourage use of ordinary services.
- Maximise integration opportunities through use of local shops, swimming during public sessions and other general social activities.
